Fitted Wardrobe Makeover in Newcastle NE5
This fitted wardrobe makeover Newcastle NE5 project transformed worn, dated built-in wardrobes into a cleaner, more modern feature. The existing units were still useful and suited the room, so Handyman MultiFix refreshed the doors and fronts rather than replacing the complete fitted system.
Refreshing the Existing Fitted Wardrobes
The original wardrobes had a dark wood finish with visible signs of age and wear. Our aim was simple: keep the useful fitted storage, improve the appearance and give the bedroom a more contemporary feel.

Sanding & Surface Preparation
Good preparation was an important part of the job. We mechanically sanded the existing surfaces using a Milwaukee cordless random orbital sander. This helped prepare the old finish and provided a more consistent surface for the furniture paint.
Painting the Existing Wardrobes
After sanding and preparation, we refinished the wardrobe fronts using Rust-Oleum Washable Matt Furniture Paint in a grey finish. We also replaced the original wooden knobs with black-and-chrome handles. Together, these changes gave the wardrobes a noticeably fresher appearance without changing the existing layout.
Before & After
The photographs below show the change from the original dark wood finish to the completed grey wardrobes. This fitted wardrobe makeover Newcastle project is a good example of how existing built-in furniture can sometimes be refreshed when the units themselves are still suitable.

The Finished Result
The finished wardrobes retained the original built-in storage while looking significantly more up to date. For this home in Newcastle NE5, careful preparation, a new grey finish and updated handles were enough to make a substantial visual difference.
