Handyman MultiFix completed this ceiling rose fitting in Newcastle upon Tyne to give an existing chandelier a more decorative and balanced setting.

The room already had traditional coving and moulded details, so the new ceiling rose needed to look as though it belonged there. We first took down the chandelier and prepared the area around the existing light point. Then we marked the centre carefully so the rose would line up properly with the light fitting and the surrounding ceiling features.

Preparing the Ceiling

Good preparation makes a noticeable difference to the finished result. If a ceiling is wallpapered, the wallpaper must not remain underneath the ceiling rose. It needs to be removed from the fitting area so the rose can be fixed directly to a sound ceiling surface.

On this project, we removed the wallpaper from the circular area around the existing light point before fitting the new rose. The exposed circle shown in the preparation photograph is the exact area where the wallpaper was taken off.

We also checked the position before fitting anything. The rose needed to sit centrally above the chandelier, while still looking balanced within the room. Taking a little extra time at this stage helped avoid an uneven or misplaced finish.

Ceiling Rose Fitting and Finishing

Once the ceiling was ready, we lifted the decorative rose into position and checked the alignment again. We then fitted it securely around the existing light point.

After fitting the rose, we finished the edges neatly so it met the textured ceiling cleanly. This small detail helped the new feature blend in with the existing ceiling rather than looking like a later addition.

Reinstalling the Chandelier

With the ceiling rose in place, we reinstalled the chandelier through its centre and made a final check of the alignment.

The finished ceiling rose now gives the chandelier a proper focal point and suits the traditional character of the room. It is a relatively simple decorative change, but it makes the light fitting feel much more connected to the rest of the interior.
